USB Driver for DG-500 & 700

Newer DG-700 and DG-500 gauges contain both a USB (located on the left in the picture) and a DB-9 Serial Communication Port (located in the center of the picture), either of which can be used to create a 2-way communication link between the gauge and a computer. This communication link can be used (along with TEC software) to conduct automated Blower Door tests and to data log both pressure channels.

-   Fully automated Blower Door testing requires a DG-700 gauge, TECTITE software, a Blower Door fan speed controller with a communication jack (standard equipment since September 2004), a fan control cable, and a communication cable (either USB or 9 pin serial) to connect the DG-700 to a user supplied laptop computer.

-   Data logging of pressure measurements requires the TECLOG software, and a communication cable (either USB or 9 pin serial) to connect the DG-700 or DG-500 to a user supplied laptop computer.

In order for the Digital Gauge to communicate with your computer, drivers must be installed.  You will know if the drivers have not been installed when you plug in the Digital Gauge into your computer, run TECTITE and you see a message that says that the Gauge is not communcating with TECTITE.  The driver file needs to be installed anytime you change computers.

Blower Door Test Software (iPhone and iPad)

The free iTEC RESNET App makes it easy to comply with the data collection and reporting requirements of the new RESNET One Point Airtightness Test, as specified in Chapter 8 of the RESNET Performance Testing Standards. iTEC RESNET allows the user to manually enter the required Blower Door airtightness data, calculate test results, record customer and building information, display test results and email an HTML report. In addition, project files can be geotagged, time stamped and a single photograph from the camera roll can be linked to the project file. Finally, the application can email a project test file that is compatible with our new TECTITE 4.0 Blower Door PC software.

Here are a couple of recent reviews on the iTEC App -

Excellent app for RESNET air tightness testing - I just downloaded this app, and it is very well designed. It's simple to use, and quickly allows me to perform air tightness testing calcs. I love that I can get my exact GPS coordinates and also email an HTML report and a testing file.Great job!

Pretty handy app! - Don't need to transfer notes or haul you computer around. Does crash when trying to email report. Trust they will get that fixed very soonUpdate:This is actually, Bill. The wife and I share an iTunes account.Unbelievable! The customer centered folks at Energy Conservatory actually follow these posts and called me on the phone. (Since they have me registered as an owner of their blower door) Very nice gentleman walked me through a couple of scenarios that indicated my old 3g iPhone was low on memory. Even got the benefit of learning how to shut down open apps that I wasn't aware off. Corrected the problem.Just got a follow up email from them to make sure the problem was resolved , appologizing for using my email to contact me, and kindly requesting that I update this post. Obviously, I am pleased to when I find one of the rare companies that understands the importance customer service and support and does all the little things right. (In addition to an excellent product)

TECLOG2 - Free Data Logging Software (PC)

TECLOG2 is The Energy Conservatory's latest data logging program for Windows® based computers. TECLOG2 is designed to monitor and store data from up to 16 DG-700's, DG-500's or APT's devices, and to provide computerized control of multiple Minneapolis Blower Door fans.

The program provides easy control of data acquisition parameters including sampling rates, auto-zero intervals and Blower Door fan flows. In addition, TECLOG2 includes a new feature to calculate and display multi-fan airtightness test results, making it ideal for testing in large commercial buildings. Data viewing capabilities include auto-axis rescaling, adjustable graph scrolling, quick graph zooming, and a moveable measurement line for determining the numeric value and time for individual data points. A statistics utility can be used with stored data files to provide basic statistical summaries for the entire file, or for a user selected portion of the data. Stored data files can also be exported for analysis in standard spreadsheet and statistical programs.

Click here for more information of using TECLOG2 to conduct multi-fan airtightness tests.

An additional application for TECLOG2 can be found in User Tip #6. This User Tip contains an article describing how to use TECLOG2 and a DG-700 gauge to perform a worst-cast depressurization test. A sample TECLOG2 data file is also provided.

ZPD Calculation Utility (PC)

The Zone Pressure Diagnostics (ZPD) Calculation Utility provides a way to estimate the leakage from one zone to another.  It can help to prioritize air sealing activities.  The ZPD Calculation Utility uses Minneapolis Blower Door™ tests taken with the house closed with zone pressure taps to the garage, the attic or the crawlspace.  An opening is then made to the suspected zone, such as opening a door, and then running the Blower Door test again and noting changes in the zone pressures.
